Learning about birds and pinecones

BJ and AJ had a great and very active day today. We went to the playground for the first time in a while, and neither wanted to leave at all! They were especially interested in a pine tree that was close to the ground and had tons of pinecones all over it. So we learned a little bit about pine needles and pinecones and how the wind and other animals can carry seeds. Then, because it was winter and there were no leaves, we saw an abandoned bird's nest in a fairly short tree by a hill so that both boys could get up close and personal. BJ was very interested in the idea that it was a bird's house, and AJ was simply interested in pulling on the tree. But all in all, that's the kind of way I want them to be learning, out and seeing and doing and not cooped up quite yet.

Although some cooping is not a bad thing. AJ actually left the house by himself today to greet my husband and I as Ilsuk was bringing me home from work, and then later fell down the steps. Then the big one was bitten by a bug somewhere while he was wearing his too big Power Ranger gloves (they don't come in a smaller size, and he wanted to be "Ranger Red, Mommy, Ranger Red!"), so I didn't even see it until I pulled off his gloves and his finger was 3 x bigger than normal! There is never a dull moment!
